On My Mum's Birthday

MacchinaDiLuigi.gif
it was incredible day... so special and so emotional.

well... every first Sunday of the month, there is a antique market in my town.
the days are getting warmer and warmer day by day.
but it was so cold, looked like we are heading back to winter like backward.

The Market is right in front of my flat. never expected that it was that cold.
anyway it is small market, it won't take that long so...never mind.

then I found an old man that I have never ever seen in this market.
white beard, sharp eyes tell already enough of it, but somehow mysterious feeling in it.
it was absolutely different from another stands selling craps.
this old man is sitting on the artless chair, had a hundred wooden shoe lasts and
an old leather sewing machine at the back.
it didn't look he is selling things at the market, more like craft workshop live or something.
whatever it was, i was totally fascinated by this stand. then said "ciao"
I was looking at the old sewing machine. he said "have you ever seen a sewing machine like that?"
I said "well...Yes but no...". and he showed how to use... obviously it works.
because he was using it till a little while ago.
then I noticed that it's not workshop, he is really selling it cos he is old and probably
he doesn't work any more, and possibly he has no one who can be his successor.
I felt a little bit confused, but by accident I had been looking for certain kind of sewing machine.
It wasn't that expensive, probably it was quite cheap as it is.... and actually I had the cash
in my pocket cos just I supposed to buy a lot of materials for my own, but I didn't in the end.

I paid...
He started to cry... he mumbled "ah... I worked with this for more than 40 years" and
he kissed this sewing machine while crying...
I had no words.
He walked around and deep breathing and he said to me
"come here!" showed me how to use it. like how to thread, where to put oil...needle...
in between every single words he kept saying "understand??? understand???" with full of tears in his eyes....
all old machines have always simple mechanism... I understood immediately.
but to me, it was not about how to treads, not where to put oil...
it was more about stories or history of relationship between him and sewing machine.

He asked me so many things "do you have that? that one too??how about that one??"
minute by minute his face softens...
means at least he understood this sewing machine's new life I wish.

He told me that
"If you have some problems, I am always at this market every first sunday of the month"
and I said to him too that
"come and see your boy sometime, I am..well.. we are always here waiting for you"

and I took piece of newspaper that he drown my feet on and his name plate that he thrown away...
and I went back home with new old sewing machine my mum's birthday.

Thank you.

A Happy New Decade!
